Math 307 - Old Exam Archive

This is a collection of old exams and solutions from varous quarters and instructors for Math 307.

WARNING: Many of these exams will NOT line up exactly with our order of presentation of the material and/or cover additional topics. In some quarters, instructors give only one midterm (which means it covers a lot more), some of these finals are from summer quarter (where the students have less time), at certain times we covered some sections in a different order, and for many other reasons don't expect these to line up exactly. So you need to take that into consideration when looking at these exams. When we get closer to the each exam I will review and indicate particular problems to study.

EXAM 1 SOLUTIONS COMMENTS
Spring 15 (Loveless) Solutions
Winter 14 (Spicer) Solutions
Winter 14 Prac (Spicer) Solutions
Spring 13 (Erickson) Solutions
Spring 12 (Grigg) Solutions On problem 2, there's a typo in the last line of the solution,
(it should be divided by 4 instead of 6).
Problems 3 and 4 are chapter 3 material (not on our first midterm)
Winter 11 (Grigg) Solutions
Summer 11 Prac (McMurdie) Solutions Problems 5 and 6 are chapter 3 material (not on our first midterm)
Winter 12 (Rudnick) Solutions
Winter 12 (Rudnick) Solutions
Summer 13 (Sarantsev) Solutions

EXAM 2 SOLUTIONS COMMENTS
Spring 15 (Loveless) Solutions
Winter 13 Practice (Caday) Solutions The solutions for 3(b) gives the quasi-frequency instead of the quasi-period. Remember period = 2pi/freq.
Winter 13 (Caday) Solutions Ignore problem 3 (Note: Q-factor is defined to be Q = (mk)^(1/2)/y,
where y = gamma. If you were told this, then you could do the problem.)
Spring 13 (Erickson) Solutions For problem 3(a), you would need some formulas from 3.8 to distinguish the last two graphs,
but you should be able to quickly sort them based on which is closer to resonance.
Winter 13 (Erickson) Solutions
Winter 11 (Grigg) Solutions
Winter 11 (Sisodia) Solutions
Summer 13 (Sarantsev) Solutions
Fall 13 (Roberts) Solutions I don't have the blank exam, solutions included.
Winter 13 (Huy) Solutions
Winter 14 (Spicer) Solutions Ignore problems 5(b)(c)(d), they use a formulas we did not discuss.
Winter 14 Practice (Spicer) Solutions Ignore problem 2(b), I believe there is a problem with the solving for alpha.
Ignore problem 4(b)(c), they use formulas we did not discuss.
Fall 01 (Palmieri) Solutions Problem 4(a) is not required for studying, it is about a formula that we did not discuss.

FINAL SOLUTIONS COMMENTS
Spring 2015 Final (Loveless) Solutions
Practice Final (McMurdie) Solutions Ignore problem 2a (substitution).
Summer 2011 Final (McMurdie) Solutions Ignore problem 6.
Fall 14 (Spicer) Solutions Hint: For 3(b), you need to know that sin^2(t) = sin^2(t-pi).
Winter 14 (Spicer) Solutions Ignore problems 6(c)(d), they use a formulas we did not discuss.
Winter 14 Practice (Spicer) Solutions
Final (Riley) Solutions Ignore problem 3.
Spring 13 (Erickson) Solutions You can ignore the second row on problem 2.
Winter 13 Practice (Caday) Solutions
Winter 13 (Erickson) Solutions
Winter 13 (Rudnick) Solutions
Spring 12 (Grigg) Solutions Ignore problem 6, it is from section 6.5 which we did not cover.
Summer 13 (Sarantsev) Solutions Ignore problem 3.
