Week 1:

To Do during the first week:

1) Familiarize yourself with the class rules & website. Read the links on the left side of this page. In particular look over the calendar and read the syllabus & the FAQs carefully. Be aware of exam dates.
2) Acquire the textbook, and a transparent ruler, a scientific calculator, and a small stapler.
3) Print out the Course Pack (Lecture Handouts)  & bring them to lectures with you.
4) Read/Work through the first 2 worksheets in your textbook and turn them in as the first homework. If you get stuck on something, you can:
-> ask questions of your TA in quiz section on Thursday.
-> see one of us at office hrs this week
-> if it's a quick question, you can ask me before or after lecture.
The Math Study Center (link on left bar) will open next week on Monday (it runs M-Th, 12:30-4:30.)

Slides from Wednesday: Summary of WS1, and Lecture Worksheet 2

Homework 1 is due this Friday, January 11.  See the "Homework" link on the left for the specific assignment and for the homework rules. From each assigned textbook section (worksheets 1 and 2), write and turn in solutions to each question, including those at the end of the worksheets. Spare graphs and diagrams to print and use for your homework are available at the back of your textbook. To get the most credit, it's important to be neat, staple the homework together, label each problem clearly, and show all your work.
