Information about the first midterm

• Solutions are available: Section E and Section G (PDF format).
• The median was 73.
• The average was 69.4.
• Here are guesses (repeat: guesses -- these numbers are subject to change at my whim) for grade equivalents for the exam: 95% would be 4.0, 90% would be 3.7, 85% would be 3.4, etc. (Every drop of 5% in exam score translates to a drop in grade by 0.3.)
• Here is the graph of grade distributions for the exam.

Information about the second midterm

• Solutions are available (PDF format).
• The median was 86.
• The average was 80.1.
• Here are guesses for grade equivalents for the exam: 95% is 4.0, 82.5% is 3.0, 70% is 2.0, 57.5% is 1.0. These will still be valid guesses after exam revisions are taken into account.
• Here is a graph of grade distributions for the exam.

Information about the final exam

• The final exam took place Saturday, December 15, 1:30-4:20, in Kane 120.
• The median was 69.
• The average was 66.0.
• You can find some old Math 124 final exams at this link, and you can look at their solutions here.

How grades are computed:

• homework scores are added up and scaled to produce a score between 0 and 30.
• the lowest quiz score is dropped, and the remaining scores are added up and scaled to produce a score between 0 and 30.
• the worksheet scores are added up and scaled to produce a score between 0 and 40.
• the final exam score is multiplied by 1.5 to produce a score between 0 and 150.
• the total score: sum of homeworks, quizzes, worksheets, the two midterms, extra credit, and final. Maximum: 450 points (well, 460 including the extra credit, but the grade is computed based on a total of 450 points).
• the grade for the course is computed using this formula:

      grade = 1.6 + 2.4*(total - 270)/153
  	

• Your TA has your final exam (and also old exams, etc., if you haven't picked them up yet).
