Day 2

Math 444, Friday, 9/30

Sponsor Today's class is brought to you by the Isosceles Triangle and the Kite.
Topics Isosceles Triangle propertiess. Perpendicular Bisector theorem. Properties of Kites.
Class Schedule
  • Lecture: Proof of properties of Isosceles Triangles.
  • How do you prove "if and only if"? How do you prove that the "set of ... " is a certain geometric object.
  • Group Discussion: Discuss proof of Assignment 1 problem on Perpendicular Bisectors. Write consensus proof. Important ideas:
    • "If and only if" in logic connects to "set of" in geometry.
  • Group Kite Investigation: Discover and conjecture basic properties of Kites. Link to detailed instructions.
    • Think about this over the weekend. Each group will write proofs of a couple of conjectures in class Monday.
    • Note how kite properties are uses in construction methods with straightedge and compass.
