Carl de Marcken

Carl studied a mix of mathematics, computers, physics, linguistics and economics at MIT — and did a PhD about how computers can learn human languages without a teacher. Then he started a company that finds how to get from here to there on airplanes that is now Google's flight search. He's one of the members of the committee that organizes the UW Math Hour Olympiad and has led after-school math programs in the Seattle public schools. For fun he plays Scrabble and ice hockey, paddles whitewater rivers, and reads.
