FAQ
How should I decide which program is right for me?
You can participate in as many of our programs as you like! Nevertheless, here are some tips to make the most of your time:
If you have more time, consider our weekly programs. The UW Math Circle focuses on exploring fun topics that highlight the breadth of mathematics, such as cryptography, games, wallpaper patterns, and more, while the Husky Math Academy focuses on strengthening core skills in algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory. See the individual pages for more information.
If you have less time, give the Monthly Math Hour and UW Math Olympiad a try! They are great for getting your feet wet in the kinds of topics and skills that we focus on.
All of our programs have minimal prerequisities, except for a strong desire to learn!
Are your programs online or in-person?
All of our programs are exclusively in-person at the University of Washington, Seattle. We do not offer online programs at this time.
Is my donation to UW Math Enrichment tax deductible?
Yes! Donations are centrally processed through the University of Washington, and for historical reasons, the fund’s name is “UW Math Circle Fund”, even though it supports all of our programs. For further information, see the UW donation FAQs . Our tax ID is 94-3079432.
We rely heavily on donations to run all of our programs. Please consider donating if you are able!
I am looking for your historical programs. Is information about them still available?
Yes. Between 2006 and 2016, we ran the Montlake Math Challenge , a program for grades 4–5 similar in spirit to today’s UW Math Circle. In the academic year 2009-10, we also ran the Washington Middle School Math Challenge , a precursor to what is now the UW Math Circle. These websites will remain available but will not be actively supported. Certain links may be broken.
I have a different question.
If your question is about a specific program, please check the FAQs of that program. Otherwise, please contact Julia Pevtsova at: julia [at] math [dot] washington [dot] edu.
