(Back to Math 126.)

What type of Math 126 section should I register for?

All Math 126 sections cover the same core course material. The main difference is how and when you attend lecture and quiz-section activities. Before registering, check the UW Time Schedule and the syllabus for your particular section for its exact meeting and exam requirements.

Standard Sections

Standard sections have scheduled in-person lectures with an instructor and scheduled quiz sections with a teaching assistant. This format provides the most regular in-person structure and is a good choice if you learn best by attending class on a consistent schedule.

Hybrid Sections

Hybrid sections replace some or all scheduled lectures with recorded or online lecture material while retaining scheduled in-person course activities such as quiz sections. This gives you more flexibility, but it also requires you to keep yourself on pace with the course calendar rather than letting lectures pile up.

Online Sections

When an online section is offered, most regular course instruction and activities are completed online. Online sections provide the greatest scheduling flexibility, but they also require strong time-management and self-motivation. Do not assume that exams are online. Check the Time Schedule and your section syllabus carefully for required in-person exams or other meetings.

Which should I choose?

There is no single best format for everyone. Think honestly about how you learn. If a regular class schedule helps you stay engaged, a standard section may be a better fit. If you are comfortable managing your own schedule and keeping up with recorded material, hybrid or online sections can provide useful flexibility.
