About the Examination

The examinations are prepared jointly by the instructors and graded jointly by the instructors and teaching assistants. Contact your instructor for additional information.

Preparing for the Examination

This is a closed-book examination. Students may bring:

  • One TI-30X IIS calculator
  • One handwritten sheet of notes, measuring 8.5 by 11 inches
  • Writing may appear on both sides of the notes sheet

No other electronic devices or papers may be used. Scratch paper will be supplied if it is needed.

Photo Identification

Bring your UW student identification card. If it is unavailable, bring another government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state identification card, or passport.

Alternatives to Common Finals

Religious Accommodations

Students who need a religious accommodation must use the University Registrar's religious accommodation process . The accommodation request form must be submitted during the first two weeks of the quarter.

Events, Emergencies, and Illness

A petition to take the make-up examination may be approved for serious health problems or extraordinary personal circumstances. Approval is not automatic. Travel, work, and sporting events normally do not qualify.

To request the make-up examination, complete the online petition form . The Spring 2026 deadline is Tuesday, December 15, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Late petitions will not be accepted.

Petitions are reviewed near the ends of weeks 3, 6, and 9. Decisions are sent to students' UW email addresses.

Conflicts with Other Examinations

If another final conflicts with a Math common final, the student must arrange to move the non-Math final.

MATH 124 and MATH 125 common finals are held at the same time during Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters. Students should not register for both courses in the same quarter.

Disability Testing Accommodations

Students registered with Disability Resources for Students (DRS) will take the final at 1:30 p.m. on the Saturday following the last day of classes.

Because the DRS Testing Center is closed on Saturdays, the Math Department will provide a reduced-distraction room. The room will be announced later in the quarter.

Examination accommodation requests must be submitted at least 10 business days before the examination.

Questions may be sent to drscas@uw.edu or drstest@uw.edu.
