Polyhedra through Origami
You have been playing with polyhedra ever since you played with blocks. In the outside world polyhedra are everywhere, in the shapes of buildings, in architectural features, in the grocery store in the form of packages, to name a few examples. In the classroom polyhedra are a rich source of problems. They motivate counting problems, algebra problems, trigonometry problems. But above all they are beautiful. Artists like M. C. Escher have been captivated by them for centuries.

In this workshop we will explore many facets of polyhedra. But we will add another dimension --we will use origami to create them.  Polyhedra lend themselves naturally to what is known as modular origami. This consists of making multiple copies of a simple unit from a single sheet of paper and then assembling them to make a beautiful, richly colored models. This is an excellent group activity which exercises your small motor skills as well as your analytical skills. So come and learn about these wonderful creations and build them
