Textbook. Sheldon Ross: A First Course in Probability, Ninth Edition, Pearson Prentice Hall, 2014.


This is the first of a three-quarter sequence course in probability theory. In this quarter we plan to cover materials from Chapters 1 to 5 of the textbook, i.e. basic principles of combinatorial analysis, basic axioms of probability, conditional probability and independence, discete and continuous random variables, expectation and variance.

The prerequisite for this course is 2.0 in Math 126 or 2.0 in Math 136.


Class Assignments and Grading

There will be weekly homework assignments, two midterm exams and one final. The final grade of this course will be based on Homework ( 10% total), midterm exams (25% each) and final (40%).
