Brown Bag Teaching/Learning Seminar #6
Loyce Adams from Applied Math

Some time ago, Loyce Adams mentioned to me an ongoing graduate seminar in the Applied Math department, entitled Clinic. On a regular basis they take on problems thrown at the department from all sorts of sources across or off campus. Whatever the problem is, they tackle it as a group and see if they can solve it--with "yes!" being a not uncommon answer. I was intrigued, but the information went the route of the overoccupied back-burner. Now Clinic has taken on for the quarter a problem springing directly from a connection with the North Shore school district made through the CCML project--front burner stuff!

Loyce is going to tell us about the history of Clinic, and some of the interesting projects they have tackled. She'll finiish up with the current one (and I'll probably chime in!) There will be plenty of time for questions, comments and discussion.

All this will happen at noon on Thursday, January 29 in the Math Lounge

FURTHER REMARK: advance warning--the next Brown Bag will defy all tradition and met on a Tuesday, February 10, in fact. That's because our guest is going to be Dale Calkins from Mechanical Engineering, and they have weekly departmental meetings on Thursdays (and you thought monthly meetings were bad!)
