How do you evaluate teaching? What options are there, and what do you gain or lose by using any particular format? What, in fact, is it actually possible to find out?

Our guest this week is Jerry Gilmore, who has put a lot of thought into those questions--though he consented to join us only on condition that I make clear that he doesn't have The Answer. Jerry is the director of UW's Office of Academic Assessment. He will speak briefly about what the situation looks like from his vantage point, and then stand by to discuss whatever aspects we bring up. It should be a good lively discussion!
