Welcome!

First Day of Class Information:

Officially, instruction begins this quarter on Tuesday, January 3. However, I prefer to start the quarter with a lecture rather than a quiz section. So we will not have quiz section on January 3. Our quarter will begin with lecture on Wednesday, January 4.

Final Exam Information:

The final exam for this course will be held on Saturday, March 11, from 5:00 to 7:50 p.m. Students who are unable to take the exam at this time may petition to take the make-up final. Generally, petitions are granted only in the cases of religion and UW athletics. Petitions are generally denied for conflicts with work and other events. Petitions may be obtained from the Math Student Services Office, PDL B-036. The deadline to petition will be announced later in the quarter.

Textbook Information:

If you purchased Webassign and/or the text for Math 111, you do not need to purchase anything new for this quarter.

If you did not take Math 111 at UW with Webassign, you must purchase a Webassign access code in order to complete the homework for the course. You are NOT required to purchase a hard copy of the text.

If you do not want to purchase a hard copy of the text, you may purchase an electronic copy of the text, along with access to Webassign when you log in. Here is the link to log into webassign: homework assignments (Webassign).

If you wish to purchase a hard copy of the text, the book is Mathematical Applications for the Management, Life, and Social Sciences, tenth edition, by Harshbarger/Reynolds. You may purchase a custom, loose-leaf edition of the text, listed as Applied Mathematics for Business, at the University Book Store. (Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 are used in Math 111 and the remaining chapters in Math 112.) A new copy of the text comes bundled with an access code for Webassign at the bookstore.

Whether you use the hard copy or electronic copy of the text, all students must have a Webassign access code. Webassign offers a two-week grace period during which you may access your homework without entering an access code.
