Some journals with good articles:
- UMAP Journal (the Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics and Its
Applications), in Odegaard Library. In particular one issue each year is
devoted to Outstanding Entries in the annual
Mathematical Contest
in Modeling for undergraduates. These are modeling problems solved
and written up by teams of undergraduates, similar to the course project.
- SIAM News
(Math Library) has articles with overviews of interesting mathemtical
problems, written for a fairly general audience.
- SIAM Review (Math Library) See the sections called
"Case Studies" and "Classroom Notes" in particular. Other
SIAM
Journals may also be useful, e.g. the SIAM Journal on Discrete
Mathematics, though most of these journals contain more detailed
research papers.

Interfaces (available online using a UW computer or at the
Business School Library) Contains many articles
about operations research applied to various businesses, mostly at the level
of describing the modeling without too many mathematical details. (Note, I had to turn off my google popup blocker to view these articles. -SB)
