  • I. N. Herstein: Abstract Algebra. This book is on reserve in the math library.
  • A. P. Hillman and G. L. Alexanderson: Abstract algebra: a first undergraduate course. This book is also on reserve. It has what looks like a nice section on functions and checking whether they're onto, one-to-one, bijective, that sort of thing.
  • T. W. Hungerford: Abstract algebra: an introduction. (This book was checked out, last time I looked.)
  • J. B. Fraleigh: A first course in abstract algebra. (Also checked out.)
• There is a newsgroup for this course, uwash.class.math402. Follow this link for instructions on how to join it (you should also be able to read the newsgroup from any UW computer just by clicking on the name of the group in the previous sentence).
