NWMI's SGI PROGRAM

This classic NWMI Geometry week is offered for the ninth year. Experience mathematically meaningful geometry activities based on

• Polyhedra in many guises
• Origami
• Mirrors and Symmetry
• Spheres
• Geometer's Sketchpad
• Geometry with Calculators
• Investigations of many kinds
• Finding the math in the activities
• And much more.

The NWMI program is based on real classrooms; instructors are the experienced corps of NWMI high school teachers (with help from mathematicians at UW and Whatcom Community College). You will enjoy a week of high-energy immersion in geometry and sharing with other teachers.

Leave with a thick notebook, models you have made, and the confidence to use these activities in your classroom.

A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM: LODGING IS INCLUDED

Since the week is designed as an immersion in a mathematical community, participating teachers may stay on campus Sunday through Thursday nights at no additional charge (for Washington state teachers).. Breakfast and lunch are also included.

TARGETED AUDIENCE

HS and MS Teachers who teach geometry classes or who wish to include geometry in any class.

• Registration Deadline: Until filled
• Class Limit: 28
• Cancellation and Refund Deadline: June 15
• In-state cost: $275 before June 15. $300 after June 15.. This includes all materials, room and two meals per day. (out-of-state teachers follow this link for fee and lodging information)

• Sun 7/31: 7-9 PM -- an evening program to kick off the week and provide information!
• Mon-Thu 8/1-8/4: 8-5 - a full day of great geometry.
  • Mon-Thu 7:30-9:30 Optional After-Dinner Math: extra rich, informal math activity.
• Fri 8/5: 8-12:30 - a last morning of activities.

Applications for credit or clock hours will be made on site when you arrive.

About 34 Clock hours will a available for an additional cost of $2.00 per hour. You can include up to 8 additional hours for After-Hour Math. Payment for clock hours is by check only, not credit card. Be sure to bring your checkbook for clock hours

Two UW credits of Math 497 will be available for an additional cost of $163. Payment for UW credit is with credit card or check. (For UW math credit, 6 additional hours of After-Dinner Math are required.)
