Does Commutativity Really Work?  Art Mabbott, Scholars Online
Remove any two numbers from the set of all integers from 1 to 100 and apply a given expression to those numbers to get a value. Put that value back in the list, leaving one fewer number in the list.  Repeat this process until we have only one number.  Does the final number change if we select a different starting pair or do always get the same results? How do you know?

3 Act Tasks:  Traci Cotton, Title 1 Math Coach, Jackson Elementary
Three act tasks are engaging and provide opportunities for powerful mathematical conversations. In this session you'll experience an elementary school 3 Act Task lesson and be provided resources to support implementation in your classroom.

Julia Robinson Festival Problem: Pilgrim's Puzzle: Joyce Frost, Lake Washington SD retired
Experience one of the fascinating problems from the March 10, 2018 Julia Robinson Festival - an easy entrance problem, but one you could work on for days! A Pilgrim needs to walk from the NW corner to the SW corner to arrive at a shrine. Using these rules: E +2, W -2, S x2, N /2, explore some tough questions to unlock some surprising results!

No host lunch at a restaurant nearby – 12:00 – 1:00 pm

Afternoon session – 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Hands-on Reflections and Symmetry on the Sphere; Dr. Jim King, UW retired
We earthlings live in a geometry that is almost a sphere.  Many of the concepts from plane geometry, such as reflection across a line and reflection symmetry of a figure, have spherical analogs (once we have figured out what a "line" is).  We will have fun exploring some of these ideas by drawing and measuring on spheres.

Movie Mystery Series, NWMI style: The Archimedes Palimpsest: Joe Frost, UW retired
Join us for a fascinating Nova episode about how some of Archimedes work has been recently recovered after having been hidden under the text of a prayer book for over 700 years. One of the discoveries is the missing piece explaining methods used in his other books where he skipped details as having been already covered.
But, these methods were unknown until now. Popcorn will be provided!

Anti-Primes and Backwards Times: Randall Creek
