Topics in Numerical Analysis, Winter, 2013

This is the Math 498 homepage. Consult it from time to time to find useful information for the course. I'll link papers I think are valuable resources.

The following are links to current course information. I'm going to post links to documents that we will consult.

  1. We will meet in Clark Hall 219 at 10:30 on Fridays.
  2. The first topic we will discuss will be eigenvalue computation. Here is a link to a paper that supplements our text. This paper describes the power method, inverse power method, and the qr method.
  3. The second topice will be introduction to svd.
  4. Cleve Moler on svd. This is one of the best short expositions of the svd and its history.
  5. Demmel's chapter on svd
  6. (3/2/13) Partitioned matrix multiplication.
  7. The third topic will be the Fast Fourier Transform.
