Marking criteria for Assignment 1

Proofs are exercises in logic but also in communication. For this first assignment we particularly want to help you focus both on correct logic and clear communication.

The check marks on your paper indicate that you are rated OK on these criteria. An X mark indicates a problem on that criterion

1. Is the statement that is to be proved written clearly on the paper?

2. This is an "if and only if" statement that will (probably) be proved by breaking it into two "if" statements to be proved separately. Is it made very clear which "if" statement (i.e., which direction) is being proved at each point of the paper?

3. Are both directions of the "if and only if" proved?

4. Does each part of the proof clear and correct about what is given, what are the definitions, what are the theorems?
