All the Sections referred to are from Johnson-Riess Arnold, 5th edition. If you do not have this edition, the problems are also found as scans on the Catalyst Workspace for the course.
The problems will be graded and recorded with two numbers. How these numbers enter into your score for the course is explained on the grading scheme on the Course Introduction and Information page on the course website.
1. Graded problems (reported by the grader): A grader will grade a few of the problems for a point score of about 10 points per problem. This score will be about 30 points each time.
2. Problems worked (reported by you) This score will be the total number of problems that you worked on the assignment. You will report this total number by writing the total in a box at the top of the first page. The good news is that this is easy. The bad news is that if you forget to put this info at the top of the first page, the grader will not record it and you will get a zero for this score.
a. So do not forget; these are free points.
b. It is fine if you list the problems that you worked, but you also must add up the total number and box it so that it is easy for the grader to spot.
c. It is OK to write ALL or ALL BUT ONE (or two) as the total if you do not want to add up the number.
d. Do be realistic about what to count as a worked problem. If you just state it or write an answer from the back of the book, do not count it. We will spot check to make sure that you are not being overly generous with giving yourself credit. (But counting the problem is OK if you really seriously tried it, even if the answer may not be right.)
á PRINT your name legibly at the top
á Label the problems clearly so that the grader can find them.
á Show your work (even if you check answers with a calculator or the back of the book).
á Write the total number of problems worked at the top of the page (see above)
á Staple the pages (buy a little stapler if you donŐt have one).
á For full credit, turn in the assignment at the beginning of class (i.e., donŐt skip class to do those last problems and turn the assignment in late).
