Chapter 4.
á Sections 4.1 and 4.2 were assigned last week.
á As of Friday, 12/2, we have also covered in class Sections 4.4, 4.5, and most of Section 4.7, with a first application resembling example 2, in Section 4.8.
á During the last week of class, we will go over the relations between determinants and row operations (Section 4.3), more applications from Section 4.8, and a brief discussion of complex eigenvalues (Section 4.6).
á All problem pages needed from JRA are or will be on the Catalyst Workspace.
Reminder 1: Write the total number of problems you
have done IN A BOX at the top of the page. The total possible this time is
Reminder 2: Staple your papers, or
use a paper clip.
Note that most of these are odd-numbered problems with answers in the back of the book. You can use this info, but of course you need to show your work, since just the answer by itself is provided.
Total number of problems = 17
á Section 4.3 #7, 9
á Section 4.5 #1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 15, 19 (note these use material from section 4.4)
á Section 4.6 #19, 21
á Section 4.7 #1, 5, 10
á Section 4.8 #9, 15, 17
Note: There will be some additional problems (not to be turned in, that fill in some topic from the last week).
á This contains some questions about determinants, eigenvalues, and matrix algebra.
