á          Section 3.6: #6, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 19, 22 (first do the numerical example from #4 and then explain what happens in general), 28

 

á          Section 3.7:
--Problem A (counts as two problem):  Do the three problems #2, 6, 7 together

Problem B (counts as two problems): Look at problems 8-17 and list ONLY the ones that are NOT linear transformations.  For each of these, tell what part of Definition 8 fails to be true.

á          This will consist of very short answers that you will be able to answer after you study Section 3.6 (about orthogonality, independence, and Gram-Schmidt). 

á          Note:  This is due on Thursday but the class will have covered the relevant material by Friday 11/4, so you can do the reading of 3.6 and take it earlier in the week if you donÕt want to bump into the Friday holiday.
