Assignments from 10/28 to 11/4

The assignment is shorter this week because of the midterm.

READING

Read Section 3.5 for Monday and Wednesday.  Read 3.6 for the latter part of class on Wednesday and for Friday.

All problem pages needed from JRA are or will be on the Catalyst Workspace.

Due Wednesday 11/2: Written Assignment 4

Reminder 1:  Write the total number of problems you have done IN A BOX at the top of the page.

Reminder 2: Staple your papers, or use a paper clip.

á          Section 3.5: 14, 17, 23, 26, 28, 36, 38, 40

When the book says prove, this means to explain it carefully and thoroughly so that a smart and friendly but skeptical person would be completely convinced.  Thus you will probably have to write a few sentences, not just equations.

DO BUT DONŐT TURN IN:

Section 3.5.  Do a sample of problems 1 – 26 sufficient for you to be sure that you know now to do such problems with confidence.  These are basic, but they are also very close to what you have already been doing, except for the concept of dimension and the special dimensions called nullity and rank of a matrix.

Due Friday 11/4 by 5PM: WebQ E

á          This will consist of very short answers about dimension, especially about rank and nullity of examples of matrices.

á          Note: This WebQ will not be set up so that you can redo it.  Prepare in advance.
