January 9: We finished Section 1.2, so you should now be able to do all of the Webassign exercises due Thursday. On Wednesday, we will cover Section 2.1. (You will have some exercises from Section 1.4 but I do not plan to spend time in lecture on this section.)

January 11: We finished Section 2.1 and will move on to Section 2.2 on Friday. You should be able to do all of the Webassign problems from Sections 1.4 and 2.1. I also assigned Discussion Problems #2 and #4 for recitation section on Tuesday.

January 13: We got through most of Section 2.2 today. You should be able to do the Section 2.2 Webassign problems now, with the possible exception of problems 13-15. On Wednesday, we will finish 2.2 and begin 2.3.

January 18: We finished Section 2.2 and began 2.3. You should now be able to do all of the Section 2.2 Webassign problems. We will continue with Section 2.3 on Friday; your Section 2.3 Webassign will be due Wednesday, January 25.

January 20: We got through most of Section 2.3, and you should now be able to do all of your Section 2.3 Webassign problems, with the exception of #7. The test next Friday will cover up through Section 2.3. Notes and calculators will not be allowed. On Monday we will finish Section 2.3 and move on to 3.1.

January 23: We finished Section 2.3, so you should now be able to do all the Webassign exercises from that section. We began Section 3.1, and I will talk a little bit more about that section on Wednesday. Then we will review for the midterm.

January 30: We finished Section 3.1, so you should now be able to do all the Webassign exercises from that section. On Wednesday, we will discuss Section 3.2.

February 1: We began Section 3.2 and will finish it on Friday before moving on to Section 3.3. I also assigned Discussion Problems #3 and #5 for recitation section next Tuesday.

February 3: We finished Section 3.2 today and began in on Section 3.3. (Please note that partitioned matrices will not be covered in this course.) You should now be able to do all of your Section 3.2 Webassign problems. On Monday we will try to finish Section 3.3.

February 8: We finished Section 3.3 today, and you should now be able to do all of the Section 3.3 Webassign problems. On Friday we will move on to Chapter 4.

February 10: We covered Section 4.1 today, and you should now be able to do all of the Section 4.1 Webassign problems. We will move on to Section 4.2 on Monday.

February 13: We covered much of Section 4.2, and you know enough to do all of the Section 4.2 Webassign problems except for problems 4-6, 12, and 13. On Wednesday we will finish 4.2 and get most of the way through 4.3 - in addition to the Webassign problems for Section 4.3, you should also do Discussion Problems 6-9 for your recitation section on Tuesday, Feb. 21. (These Discussion Problems involve Section 4.3.)

February 15: We finished Section 4.2, and you should now be able to do the remaining Section 4.2 Webassign problems. We then started Section 4.3, which we will finish on Friday. We will then review for the February 22 Midterm, which covers up through Section 4.3. Once again, notes and calculators will not be allowed for this exam.

February 22: We will begin Section 5.1 on Friday. Your new Webassign homework will be available this afternoon.

February 24: We got through most of Section 5.1, and you should now be able to do all of your Section 5.1 Webassign problems with the exception of Problems 6 and 16. Discussion problems 10 and 11 were assigned for Tuesday, February 28. On Monday, we will finish Section 5.1 and move on to Section 6.1.

February 27: We finished Section 5.1 and got through most of 6.1. You should now be able to do all of the Section 5.1 Webassign Problems and all of the Section 6.1 Webassign problems with the exception of Problem 14. (You have to know what the "characteristic polynomial" is for many of the problems; I discussed it in class today but did not introduce the terminology. You should also assume in Problem 13 that the characteristic polynomial has no complex roots which aren't real.) On Wednesday, we will finish 6.1 and move on to Section 6.3.

March 1: We finished Section 6.1 and got through most of 6.3. You should be able to do all of the Section 6.1 Webassign problems, and you have enough theory to do all of the Section 6.3 Webassign problems. On Friday, I will finish the example begun in class today and then move on to Section 8.1.

March 3: We finished Section 6.3 and got just about completely through Section 8.1. You now know enough to do all of the Section 8.1 Webassign problems. I also assigned Discussion Problems 12 and 13 for recitation section on Tuesday. On Monday, we will finish up 8.1 and begin 8.2.

March 6: We finished Section 8.1 and got through much of 8.2, which we will finish on Wednesday. Then we will move on to Section 8.5.

March 8: We finished Section 8.2 and pretty much finished what I plan to cover from 8.5. All that remains is for me to do an example illustrating Theorem 8.29, which I will do on Friday. You now know enough to do all of your Webassign problems; I also assigned #75 from Section 8.1 and #59 from Section 8.2 in your text. These problems - not to be turned in - cover some important material not covered by Webassign.

The final exam is on Thursday, March 16 and, once again, notes and calculators are not allowed. I will, however, provide you with a sheet of paper containing Theorem 6.11, Definition 8.13, Definition 8.15, and Theorem 8.17 from your text. (These will appear exactly as written there.)
