Christine Lind

Department:Applied Mathematics

I am a third year graduate student in the Applied Mathematics department. My application area is Mathematical Biology, and I study mathematical models for molecular motors with my advisor, Hong Qian. I completed my masters degree in the fall of 2004, and I am now working towards my PhD. I received my B.A. from Macalester College (St. Paul, Minnesota) in 2002, with a double Math and Physics major. Before going to college, I was raised in Tacoma, Washington. I love the Northwest, and I am glad that I no longer have to deal with Minnesota summers or winters. My outside-of-school hobbies include playing soccer, rock climbing, and reading.

I'm originally from Louisiana, and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Systems Science and Mathematics. After graduating, I spent one last sunny summer in Louisiana before I moved to Seattle to start graduate school in the Applied Math department here at the University of Washington. I'm currently in my 3rd year of graduate study under the direction of Bernard Deconinck. Outside of school, I like to sleep. I graduated from Kalamazoo College (B.A. '94)in Michigan with a math and music double major, and also spent two years studying actuarial science at the University of Iowa (M.S. '96). Thereafter, I was an actuarial analyst for four years at the Lincoln Financial Group in Fort Wayne, Indiana, before moving to Chicago to do consulting for Tillinghast-Towers Perrin Financial Services. In 2002 and 2003, I was a visiting lecturer at the University of Illinois in the math department. Currently, I am in my third year in the PhD program in statistics at UW, and am working with Elena Erosheva in CSSS on a longitudinal chronic disability study, using data from the National Long Term Care Survey. Around Seattle, I enjoy soccer refereeing, softball, art films, and campus Christian fellowship.
