NWMI Summer Geometry Institute
August 8-12, 2010

SGI Content

This classic NWMI Geometry week is offered for the 17th year. Experience mathematically meaningful geometry activities and discuss the math in the activity. This program is relevant now more than ever because of increased geometry in the new Washington Math Standards and the Common Core State Standards.

The NWMI program is based on real classrooms; instructors are the experienced corps of NWMI high school teachers (with help from mathematicians at UW and elsewhere). You will enjoy a week of high-energy immersion in geometry and sharing with other teachers.

Leave with a thick notebook, models you have made, and the confidence to use these activities in your classroom.

  • Polyhedra in many guises
  • Origami
  • Mirrors and Symmetry
  • Spheres
  • Geometer's Sketchpad Hands-on Instruction
  • Geometry with Calculators

  • And much more
  • PLUS a rich and relaxed optional program of After-Dinner Math.
FOR WHOM?
HS and MS Teachers who teach a geometry course or who teach geometry in an integrated course or middle school course and who want a richer set of tools for addressing the Washington Essential Learnings in geometry and measurement.
