DIFFERENTIAL GEOMETRY/PDE/NUMERICAL ANALYSIS SEMINAR Monday, February 12 Padelford C401 3:45 pm Robin Graham (University of Washington) Involutive Structures and the Edge-of-the-Wedge Theorem Part 2 The edge-of-the-wedge theorem is a well-known result concerning holomorphic functions of several complex variables. I will present a simple new proof of this theorem using the notion of an involutive structure. Involutive structures are generalizations of complex and CR structures and have been the focus of much research recently. This is joint work with Michael Eastwood. In the first talk I defined involutive structures, discussed examples and interesting behavior thereof, and analyzed in some detail the involutive structure which arises in the edge-of-the-wedge theorem. In this second talk I will discuss and prove the edge-of-the-wedge theorem. If there is time I will also indicate how we came upon this--there is a connection with integral geometry.
