There will be NO DIFFERENTIAL GEOMETRY/PDE SEMINAR next Monday, May 13 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next seminar: Monday, May 20 Padelford C401 3:45 PM ON DETERMINING OBSTACLES INSIDE INHOMOGENEITIES Lassi Paivarinta (University of Oulu, Finland) Sylvester and Uhlmann were the first to prove that the spatially varying conductivity of a body can be uniquely determined from electrostatic boundary measurements. If the body contains a perfectly conducting obstacle one may ask whether voltage-current measurements carry enough information to determine both the perfect conductor and the background conductivity function. We discus this still open problem and give some partial answers. This is a joint study with A. Kirsch of Karlsruhe, Germany.
