We describe a combinatorial framework for counting quadratic differentials arising as branched covers of $\mathbb{CP}^1$ over 4 points. This leads to a surprising identity involving zeta functions, and gives information on volumes of moduli spaces of quadratic differentials on the sphere, and has further applications to counting billiard trajectories in rectilinear domains. This is joint work with Alex Eskin and Anton Zorich. |
