The idea of the assignment is to survey and sample how some important geometry topics are presented in several high schools texts. Since the logistics of this can be a bit complicated, the assignment will spread over two or more weeks (while other things are going on in the course concurrently).

The groups are numbered 1 – 6.  The topic and textbook for each is given in the table.

The assignment is deliberately not spelled out in too much detail so that you can think about what the various topics mean.

First Draft: Wed 1/21: This draft will focus on what the books include the topic, what they expect the students to do, and how the topic is presented.

Each group will submit electronically an MS Word document that describes where in the book the various topics appear, including exercises, applications, etc.  This means that the group as a whole should survey the whole text looking for its topic.  You may want to divide up the page numbers and take turns with taking the book home overnight to get the basic info.  Then the write-up should have more than page numbers, it should begin to describe how the topic is introduced (examples, experiments, formal definition, etc) and the general style of the book.  This should be probably about a 6-8 pages for a first draft.  The drafts will be shared on the web.  Note:  This should not just be list of page numbers.  You will need to decide what geometry you are including in the scope of your topic and explain that a bit.  You can given examples or descriptions to give an idea of the style of the book.

Second Draft Wed 2/4: This draft will expand and improve the first draft, plus including more in the way of a review/evaluation of the approach of the text.
