The Ratio in which an Angle Bisector divides a side of a Triangle

This theorem for interior angle bisectors was a Assignment Problem in Math 444. There is also a related theorem about exterior angle bisectors. Both are in B&B as exercises.

Be prepared to:

• state either theorem.
• understand the theorem well enough to apply it in a simple example. For instance, in triangle ABC, the sides are |BC| = 4, |CA| = 3, |AB| = 5. If D is on segment BC and AD bisects angle A, then what is the ratio DB/DC?

The proof is optional at this point.
